The Image in Cinema
The Image in Cinema exists to demonstrate that within every big-screen story of our time, there are glimmers of the image of God shining through. The conviction is precisely that human beings tell stories because they are made in the image of He who has told the greatest story in His Word. God has chosen to speak to us through story. No wonder His creation enjoys hearing stories and creating them, for we are in His image.
If a story contains truth, we as Christians can rejoice, for all truth is God’s truth. If a story contains beauty, we as Christians can rejoice, for all beauty is God’s beauty. A story, having nothing to do with Christianity or spirituality, can indeed put the image of God on display, although fragmented. Why? Because the authors behind such stories are made in His image.
Through this series, I desire to show that it is the image of God within us all that compels we the authors, we the directors, we the screenwriters, we the actors, we the audience etc. to engage in storytelling and embrace storytelling, for He is the greatest Storyteller. In showing this, I also hope to point your eyes toward the only way to make sense of these stories—knowing the person, Jesus Christ.
The story He tells is one of sacrificial love, unending faithfulness, glorious redemption, and eternal restoration. This and much more are found in knowing Jesus Christ—He who was, is, and is to come.
Soli Deo Gloria
